Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga

Kendrick Lamar hit the stage at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago over the weekend, but it was the famous fan standing offstage who had everyone talking. Lady Gaga was seen cheering on the Compton MC as he performed.

The odd couple have struck up a friendship, which they shared in a conversation on Twitter.

Gaga, who rarely tweets other celebrities, showered praise on Dr. Dre’s protégé. “@kendricklamar #womenweedandweather listening to The Recipe,” she wrote. “Can your new album come out now so i can go out to clubs and dance again.”

The pop superstar even co-signed his brand new single “Swimming Pools (Drank).” “@kendricklamar sitdown DRANK stand up DRANK. are you teaching a lyric writing program in compton? ‘Swimming Pool’ is so cool,” she continued.

Their relationship didn’t develop overnight. “That’s a real good friend… a real good friend,” Kendrick told The Source.

When asked about a potential collaboration, he said, “God willing … for now I just like the friendship thing.”

Kendrick has been in the studio with Dr. Dre and Digi-Phonics working on his debut album good kid m.A.A.d city, due October 2.
